Little Owls in Pyongyang: March 9

The Little Owl Athene noctua plumipes is a scarce species in the southern provinces of Korea. However, the species appears to be rather more widespread in the northern provinces, especially in the west, with recent records from e.g. central Pyongyang (where nesting was documented in 2014 by John O’Dea: BirdingAsia 22: 113), Mundok, and on the road between Pyongyang and Wonsan.

Images of a pair taken on March 9th by Bushra Rahman in the diplomatic compound suggest that the species is again preparing to nest in Pyongyang.
