Garganey, Black-tailed godwits and Wood sandpipers in Gimpo

Our latest trip to the rice fields along the Han River estuary (Musunsanseong to Yudo islet; rice fields West of Aegibong, Siam wetland) brought some nice views of waders in the newly-planted rice fields, though not in large numbers, as well as other typical summer birds, in particular egrets.

You can find the complete lists here:

Notable were two Black-tailed Godwits and an unexpected Garganey among a group of Spot-billed Ducks in Siam wetland. Also, there were good views of Wood Sandpipers in the rice fields, as well as Common Greenshanks, Common Sandpipers and Black-faced Spoonbills. In the rice fields all kinds of egrets and herons (Great, Medium and Little as well as quite a few Cattle Egrets, Gray Heron as well as one Black-crowned Night Heron, and Chinese Pond Herons), with only the Striated Heron missing. Surprisingly no call from Oriental Reed Warblers, and no kingfishers – maybe due to the rapidly deteriorating habitat?
