Incheon Tidal Power Plant CDM website – comments online

Responses to the proposed Incheon Tidal Power Plant are now live on the Clean Development Mechanism (CDM) website. Included are comments from eg Birds Korea, KFEM, Eco-Horizon Institute, Korean citizens and groups, and from overseas opponents including Australasian Wader Studies Group, BirdLife, RSPB, and SAVE International.

Almost unanimously commenters point out how important Incheon tidal-flats are to a range of internationally-important birdlife (eg the globally Endangered Black-faced Spoonbill Platalea minor, the globally Vulnerable Chinese Egret Egretta eulophotes, the globally Vulnerable Saunders’s Gull Chroicocephalus saundersi and the globally Vulnerable Far Eastern Curlew Numenius madagascariensisand the globally Endangered Red-crowned Crane Grus japonensis), how CO2 will be released as the tidal flats dry, and how carbon sequestration by the tidal flats will be halted.
