Visits to Goseong on August 11-12, 2021 and September 3-4, 2021

Dr. Bernhard Seliger (Hanns Seidel Foundation Korea, Birds Korea)

Two visits mainly unrelated to birding were used to check sites in Goseong County, Gangwon Province. Disturbance at the beaches and, unfortunately, also in the wetlands around Hwajinpo, was high due to visitors camping and enjoying the summer season. Strong winds and the start of the migration season brought a number of waders in very small numbers, including Far Eastern Curlew, Far Eastern Oystercatcher, Grey Plover, Sanderling, Terek Sandpiper and Red-necked Stint, Wood Sandpiper and Common Greenshank. Among other birds, Brown shrikes were notable.
