{"id":6407,"date":"2012-10-14T22:01:23","date_gmt":"2012-10-14T13:01:23","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.birdskoreablog.org\/?p=6407"},"modified":"2013-04-16T20:10:58","modified_gmt":"2013-04-16T11:10:58","slug":"bunsungsan-gimhae-october-14th","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.birdskoreablog.org\/?p=6407","title":{"rendered":"Bunsungsan, Gimhae, October 14"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><strong>Bird News by Jason Loghry<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>Eager to see what&#8217;s on the move, I headed to the temple (which is located at the peak of this mountain) for a Sunday morning sit.  On the way up the mountain, I passed a large group <strong>Large-billed Crow<\/strong> (30). Arriving at sunrise, within seconds of getting off my bike I counted a flock of <strong>Olive-backed Pipits<\/strong> (87) ascending to the sky from the mountain&#8217;s edge. Soon another flock of <strong>Olive-backed&#8217;s<\/strong> (31) took flight in the same direction. I rushed to get to the top and get positioned for my sit. For the next 3 hours, every thirty minutes I took note of cloud cover, wind, and temperature. It was very exciting to watch so many groups of birds rapidly arrive and depart. The most numerous species was <strong>Eastern Great Tit<\/strong>, counting up to 358. Highlights include <strong>Tristram&#8217;s Bunting<\/strong> (11), <strong>Goldcrest<\/strong> (16), and <strong>Dusky Thrush<\/strong> (2), all personal firsts for the season at this site. Also observed were <strong>Arctic Warbler<\/strong> <em>sensu lato<\/em> (6), <strong>Yellow-browed Warbler<\/strong> (2), <strong>Pale Thrush <\/strong>(1), <strong>Brown-eared Bulbul<\/strong> (43), <strong>Marsh Tit<\/strong> (28), <strong>Daurian Redstart<\/strong> (48), <strong>Northern Hobby<\/strong> (1), <strong>Eurasian Kestrel<\/strong> (3), <strong>Grey-headed Woodpecker<\/strong> (2), <strong>Pygmy Woodpecker<\/strong> (3), <strong>White-backed Woodpecker<\/strong> (1), and <strong>Yellow-throated Bunting <\/strong>(1). After more visitors started to show, I decided to peel out and head to Hwapo Cheon, a nearby wetland.<\/p>\n<p>A few more small flocks of <strong>Eastern Great Tits<\/strong> (including one of 17), <strong>Greater Spotted Woodpecker<\/strong> (3), <strong>Brambling<\/strong> (13), and what looked to be an <strong>Eastern Buzzard<\/strong> soaring high were seen on my route to Hwapo Wetland. Hwapo was a bit quiet (bird-wise) with mostly <strong>Spot-billed Duck<\/strong>, <strong>Eurasian Teal<\/strong>, and <strong>Great Egret<\/strong>.
