{"id":468,"date":"2011-04-27T22:01:03","date_gmt":"2011-04-27T13:01:03","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.birdskoreablog.org\/?p=468"},"modified":"2013-04-16T20:35:50","modified_gmt":"2013-04-16T11:35:50","slug":"26-april-southwest-jeju-island","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.birdskoreablog.org\/?p=468","title":{"rendered":"Southwest Jeju Island, April 26"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><b><u>Bird News from Matthew Poll<\/b><\/u><\/p>\n<p>\nAn early morning drive to the southwest coast produced some interesting spring birds, with 73 species seen today. <strong>Black-winged Stilts<\/strong> have arrived, with a total of a dozen seen at several different locations. <strong>Wood Sandpipers<\/strong> are also in evidence on Jeju with about 50 seen, in a wide range of wetland habitats. A dozen <strong>Whimbrels<\/strong>, and a similar number of <strong>Marsh Sandpipers<\/strong> were seen scattered along the coast and flooded fields. <strong>Cattle Egrets<\/strong> have returned to Jeju in force, and several <strong>Black-throated Loon<\/strong> still remain off the coast.  A few hundred winter ducks linger still at the Yongsu reservoir.<\/p>\n<p>\nOn a wooded hill on the southwest coast, perhaps a dozen <strong>Japanese Thrush<\/strong> were heard, but proved very elusive to see.  A half-dozen vocal <strong>Eastern Crowned<\/strong> and <strong>Arctic Warblers<\/strong> were seen, along with an <strong>Asian Stubtail<\/strong>.  Also on this hill were several <strong>Narcissus<\/strong> and <strong>Asian Brown Flycatchers<\/strong>, and a <strong>Chinese Pond Heron<\/strong>.  Best of the day was a <strong>White-shouldered Starling<\/strong> found with a murmuration of about 50 <strong>White-cheeked Starlings<\/strong>.<\/p>\n<p>\nA farmer&#8217;s field near Seogwipo held several <strong>Yellow Buntings<\/strong>. In a nearby park, several <strong>Tristram&#8217;s Buntings<\/strong> and a <strong>White-backed Woodpecker<\/strong> were seen.
