Bird News from Nial Moores<\/strong><\/p>\n

In fair weather on 18th, 71 species logged in the afternoon in 1-Gu. Birds of note included a single Latham\u2019s Snipe<\/strong>, two Black Woodpigeon<\/strong>, six Yellow Bunting<\/strong>, two Brown-headed Thrush<\/strong>, single Yellow-rumped <\/strong>and Narcissus Flycatchers<\/strong>, one or two Citrine Wagtail<\/strong>, a Chinese Blackbird<\/strong>, a probable female Black Redstart <\/strong>and four Eurasian Wryneck<\/strong>. On the mossy slab, two Sharp-tailed Sandpiper<\/strong>, a Great Knot<\/strong>, two Red-necked Stint<\/strong>, four Kentish Plover <\/strong>and best of all single Greater Sand Plover <\/strong>and Bar-tailed Godwit <\/strong>\u2013 the latter a female menzbieri<\/strong><\/em> beautifully adorned with bands: metal ring on right tibia (including sequence of 107?); Yellow over Yellow on right tarsus; and on left tarsus, Yellow flag above Red over Red bands. A local shopkeeper first saw this bird on April 16th. <\/p>\n

In overcast conditions with occasional rain and strengthening SE winds, incomplete survey suggested fewer birds in the morning \u2013 with no sign of the Great Knot (fortunately \u2013 as very little if any food for such a species here) \u2013 and a small arrival ongoing through the afternoon. In total, 74 species logged, with new birds in including Northern House Martin <\/strong>(1-2), Asian House Martin<\/strong> (30+) (and one apparently all brown martin\u2026), Red-billed Starling <\/strong>(3), Oriental Reed <\/strong>(1) and Sakhalin <\/strong>or Pale-legged Leaf Warblers <\/strong>(3) <\/strong>and <\/strong>two male Blue-and-white Flycatcher<\/strong>. Narcissus Flycatcher<\/strong> increased to four, a group of Greater Short-toed Lark<\/strong> in the village increased from five to nine, and on the mossy slab the Bar-tailed Godwit<\/strong> and Greater Sandplover<\/strong> were joined for a while by a Glaucous-winged Gull<\/strong> \u2013 presumably a first record for Gageo and one of the first records in the southwest of this species away from Jeju.<\/p>\n
