Bird News from Nial Moores <\/p>\n\n\n\n

<\/p>\n\n\n\n

As part of Birds Korea’s research collaboration with the Oriental Stork Reintroduction Program, two days driving around rice-fields in Seosan (thanks Park Meena!). Among more than 60 species logged the highlight was a total of 17-18 Oriental Storks<\/strong>, including six banded (i.e. released) birds and one bird carrying a data-logger (considered likely to be from Russia). <\/p>\n\n\n\n

Other species of note included a single adult Snow Goose<\/strong> (on the 3rd<\/sup>); 10,000+ Tundra Bean<\/strong> and 25,000+ Greater White-fronted Geese<\/strong>; four Lesser White-fronted Geese<\/strong> on 2nd<\/sup> and 1+ on 5th<\/sup>; a single Tundra Swan<\/strong> with 118+ Whooper Swan<\/strong>; 45 Baikal Teal<\/strong>; one Japanese Quail<\/strong>; 7-8 Cinerous Vulture<\/strong>; single Northern Goshawk<\/strong> and Hen Harrier<\/strong>; five White-tailed Eagle<\/strong>; one Rough-legged\u00a0 Buzzard<\/strong>; 15 Hooded Crane <\/strong>(two of which at least were obvious Hooded<\/em> X Common Cranes<\/em>); \u00a0a total of 88 Northern Lapwing<\/strong>; a Short-eared Owl<\/strong>; two Dusky Warbler<\/strong>; a Red-throated Pipit<\/strong> in with 40 Buff-bellied Pipits<\/strong>; 1-2 Ochre-rumped<\/strong> and 30+ Pallas\u2019s Reed Buntings<\/strong>; and a single flock of at least 700 Lapland Longspur<\/strong>.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
