Bird News from Nial Moores<\/p>\n

Following an afternoon ferry journey on the 10th<\/sup> (which produced c. 180 Streaked<\/strong> and three Flesh-footed Shearwaters<\/strong> and a single Parasitic Jaeger<\/strong>), I have had the chance to spend a few desk work-interrupted days in the northeast of Baekryeong. In addition to decent numbers of buntings (including single Pine<\/strong> and Ochre-rumped<\/strong> on the 11th<\/sup>, several early Pallas\u2019s Reed<\/strong> and Common Reed<\/strong>, 5-15 Yellow-browed<\/strong> each day, and the first Rustic Buntings<\/strong> on the 12th<\/sup>) and pipits (including low tens of Red-throated<\/strong> and Buff-bellied<\/strong>, and 2-5 Pechora Pipits<\/strong> each day), notable counts\/ species have\u00a0 included 45+ Richard\u2019s Pipit<\/strong> on the 11th<\/sup>; and 300+ Olive-backed Pipit<\/strong>, 400+ Brambling<\/strong> and a high-flying Greater Spotted Eagle<\/strong> on the 12th.<\/sup><\/p>\n

On 13th, best were a single Far Eastern Curlew<\/strong>, a probable Northern Great Tit<\/em> (seen only in flight with two Eastern Greats<\/strong>, flying right at me before \u00a0disappearing into cover – when the underparts looked bright yellow compared with the buff-grey underparts of the other two birds), several more incoming flocks of Brambling<\/strong> and Eurasian Siskin<\/strong> and at least two Far Eastern Cisticola<\/strong> on active migration. Although this species breeds on Baekryeong, there are no records at all yet from north of the inner border of Korea.<\/p>\n
