Bird News from Nial Moores<\/p>\n

With heavy rain on the 5th<\/sup> until the late afternoon of the 6th<\/sup>, an arrival of spring migrants was eagerly anticipated.<\/p>\n

\"rs-yellowbellyDSC01047\"Yellow-bellied Tit<\/strong> Pardaliparus venustulus <\/i>\u00a9 Nial Moores: 40-45 counted – making this the commonest tit in the park!<\/p>\n

\"rs-greythrush-DSC00981\"Grey Thrush<\/strong> Turdus cardis <\/i>\u00a9 Nial Moores. One of five recorded on 6th and 7th.<\/p>\n

\"rs-blueandwhiteDSC00953\"Blue-and-white Flycatcher<\/strong> Cyanoptila cyanomelana <\/i>\u00a9 Nial Moores. Three on the 7th.<\/p>\n

\"rs-asianbrown-DSC01055\"Asian Brown Flycatcher<\/strong> Muscicapa latirostris <\/i>\u00a9 Nial Moores. Three on the 7th.<\/p>\n

\"rs-tristramsbunting-DSC00848\"Tristram’s Bunting<\/strong> Emberiza tristrami <\/i>\u00a9 Nial Moores. Always skulking, there were 6-10 in the park on 6th and 7th.<\/p>\n

\"rs-greybunt-DSC00912\"Grey Bunting<\/strong> Emberiza variabilis<\/i> \u00a9 Nial Moores. Absent in this park\u00a0 throughout the winter, small groups of this extreme skulker were found in two different areas on 6th and 7th.<\/p>\n

In 4-5 hours on the 6th<\/sup> and 11 hours on the 7th<\/sup>, spring arrivals in the local park included: 15+ Streaked Shearwater<\/strong> on the 6th<\/sup>; single Grey-faced Buzzard<\/strong> on the 6th<\/sup> and 7th<\/sup>; 20+ Pacific Swift<\/strong> on the 7th<\/sup> (with the personal first of the year noted here on March 30th<\/sup>); 1-2 Bohemian<\/strong> and 20+ Japanese Waxwings<\/strong> on the 7th<\/sup>; a staggering 40-45 Yellow-bellied Tit<\/strong> in the area covered on the 6th<\/sup> and 7th<\/sup> (although probably 20-30 were present here into January this number had fallen to singles in March.\u00a0 First recorded in Korea in 2005, this was easily the commonest tit species encountered in the half of the park counted on 6th and 7th!); single Light-vented Bulbul <\/strong>(although one over-wintered in the park this was in a new area and therefore might well have been a new arrival); \u00a0single Barn Swallow<\/strong> on the 6th<\/sup> increasing to a dozen or so on the 7th<\/sup>; 1-2 Red-rumped Swallow<\/strong> on the 7th<\/sup>; single Korean Bush Warbler<\/strong> on the 7th<\/sup>; a total of 18\u00a0 Asian Stubtail<\/strong> on 6th<\/sup> and 7th<\/sup>; two Eastern Crowned Warbler<\/strong> on the 6th<\/sup> and four on the 7th<\/sup>; 2-3 White\u2019s Thrush<\/strong> on the 6th<\/sup>; single Grey-backed Thrush<\/strong> on the 6th<\/sup> and 2-3 on the 7th<\/sup>; two Grey Thrush<\/strong> on the 6th<\/sup> and at least three (all in one tree, being chased off by the rather more numerous Pale Thrush<\/strong>) on the 7th<\/sup>; single Chinese Blackbird<\/strong> on the 6th<\/sup> (with one also seen here on February 23rd<\/sup>); two Brown-headed Thrush<\/strong> on the 7th<\/sup>; three Asian Brown <\/strong>and three Blue-and-white Flycatchers <\/strong>on the 7th<\/sup>; single Narcissus Flycatcher<\/strong> on the 6th<\/sup>; single Siberian Blue Robin<\/strong> on the 6th<\/sup> with two on the 7th<\/sup>; separate single Japanese Robin<\/strong> on the 6th<\/sup> and 7th<\/sup>;\u00a0 single Eastern Yellow Wagtail<\/strong> on the 6th<\/sup>; a half-dozen Brambling<\/strong> and Eurasian Siskin<\/strong> on 7th<\/sup>; and 3-5 Tristram\u2019s<\/strong> (including one singing) and 2-3+ Grey Buntings <\/strong>on both 6th<\/sup> and 7th<\/sup>.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
