Bird News from Tim Edelsten with Shim Kyu-Sik<\/u><\/strong><\/p>\n

\nNotably on the crossing, 17 Pomarine Skua<\/strong> (including a “flock” of 8), up to 70 Streaked Shearwater<\/strong>, 500+ Black-legged Kittiwake<\/strong> (mostly concentrated in rafts near the island), and 5 Flesh-footed Shearwater<\/strong>.<\/p>\n

\nOn the island itself most interesting 4 Pine Bunting<\/strong> at NE point: also a lone rattling Chinese Bulbul<\/strong> and Bluethroat<\/strong> (SKS) at the lighthouse early in the morning. Striking out for the Chinese coast at this time were 8 Little Bunting<\/strong> and a flock of Oriental Turtle Dove<\/strong> heading out over the sea.
Otherwise, 15 Eastern<\/strong> and 3 Upland Buzzard,<\/strong> 4 Spot-billed Duck<\/strong>, 25+ Eastern Great Tit<\/strong>, 10 Brown-eared Bulbul<\/strong>, a Long-tailed Tit<\/strong>, a Peregrine<\/strong>, 2 Common Kestrel<\/strong> (including one mobbing a Buzzard<\/em>), 12 Eurasian Sparrowhawk<\/strong>, 12 Yellow-browed<\/strong>, 2 Dusky<\/strong>, 1 Korean Bush<\/strong> and 3 Pallas’s Leaf Warbler<\/strong>, a Richard’s Pipit<\/strong>, several Large-billed Crow<\/strong>, the resident Jay<\/strong>, 5 Siberian Stonechat<\/strong>, 5 Daurian Redstart,<\/strong> a Eurasian Skylark<\/strong>, 2 Bull-headed Shrike<\/strong>, 2 Red-flanked Bluetail<\/strong>, 14 Black-faced Bunting<\/strong> (inc. 2 personata<\/em>), 3 Tristram’s<\/strong>, 2 Yellow-throated<\/strong> and 10 Meadow Bunting<\/strong>.<\/p>\n

\nOn the cliffs, 2 Temminck’s<\/strong> were among the many Pelagic Cormorants<\/strong>, and a Mongolian<\/strong> among the many Black-tailed Gulls<\/strong>. :Unfortunately reduced to roadkill were an Oriental Scops Owl<\/strong> and Grey Wagtail<\/strong>.
Scuttling along the roadside, a Tsushima<\/strong> Smooth Skink<\/strong> Scincella vandenburghi<\/em>.<\/p>\n

\nA very calm sea on the return leg produced c.140 Streaked Shearwater<\/strong>, 10 Pomarine Skua<\/strong>, 7 Flesh-footed Shearwater<\/strong>, c.50 Black-legged Kittiwake<\/strong>, and most unexpected one Short-tailed Shearwater<\/strong>.<\/p>\n
