{"id":17233,"date":"2015-12-02T18:10:19","date_gmt":"2015-12-02T09:10:19","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.birdskoreablog.org\/?p=17233"},"modified":"2015-12-02T19:31:14","modified_gmt":"2015-12-02T10:31:14","slug":"paldang-november-28","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.birdskoreablog.org\/?p=17233","title":{"rendered":"Paldang, November 28"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>Bird News from Robin Newlin and Marco Della Seta.<\/p>\n<p>Our Saturday morning visit to the Han River at Paldang came a couple of days after the season&#8217;s first freeze, and the weather and the birds were winter quality: snow throughout the morning and the following avian highlights:<br \/>\nAn adult <strong>Steller&#8217;s Sea Eagle<\/strong>, which, as soon as we arrived, flew right past us then up to roost out of sight on the wooded mountainside. We saw (presumably) this same bird later in the morning, about a kilometre down-river. We also saw two <strong>White-tailed Sea Eagles<\/strong>.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/www.birdskoreablog.org\/wp-content\/uploads\/2015\/12\/stelly-AP9F9550.jpg\" rel=\"prettyPhoto[17233]\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/www.birdskoreablog.org\/wp-content\/uploads\/2015\/12\/stelly-AP9F9550-1024x790.jpg\" alt=\"stelly AP9F9550\" width=\"690\" height=\"532\" class=\"alignnone size-large wp-image-17240\" srcset=\"https:\/\/www.birdskoreablog.org\/wp-content\/uploads\/2015\/12\/stelly-AP9F9550-1024x790.jpg 1024w, https:\/\/www.birdskoreablog.org\/wp-content\/uploads\/2015\/12\/stelly-AP9F9550-150x116.jpg 150w, https:\/\/www.birdskoreablog.org\/wp-content\/uploads\/2015\/12\/stelly-AP9F9550-300x231.jpg 300w, https:\/\/www.birdskoreablog.org\/wp-content\/uploads\/2015\/12\/stelly-AP9F9550.jpg 1189w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 690px) 100vw, 690px\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p>     <strong>Steller&#8217;s Sea Eagle<\/strong> <em>Haliaeetus pelagicus<\/em> \u00a9Robin Newlin<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/www.birdskoreablog.org\/wp-content\/uploads\/2015\/12\/wt-eagle-AP9F9594.jpg\" rel=\"prettyPhoto[17233]\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/www.birdskoreablog.org\/wp-content\/uploads\/2015\/12\/wt-eagle-AP9F9594-1024x730.jpg\" alt=\"wt eagle AP9F9594\" width=\"690\" height=\"492\" class=\"alignnone size-large wp-image-17239\" srcset=\"https:\/\/www.birdskoreablog.org\/wp-content\/uploads\/2015\/12\/wt-eagle-AP9F9594-1024x730.jpg 1024w, https:\/\/www.birdskoreablog.org\/wp-content\/uploads\/2015\/12\/wt-eagle-AP9F9594-150x107.jpg 150w, https:\/\/www.birdskoreablog.org\/wp-content\/uploads\/2015\/12\/wt-eagle-AP9F9594-300x214.jpg 300w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 690px) 100vw, 690px\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p>      <strong>White-tailed Sea Eagle<\/strong> <em>Haliaeetus albicilla<\/em> \u00a9Robin Newlin<\/p>\n<p>Other birds included c. 40 <strong>Whooper Swans<\/strong>; a few <strong>Great Crested<\/strong> and <strong>Little Grebes<\/strong>; a sitting (but hardly relaxing) <strong>Far Eastern Buzzard<\/strong> first mobbed by a <strong>Common Magpie<\/strong> and then a <strong>Eurasian Kestrel<\/strong>; a sizable (c.23) flock of <strong>Azure-winged Magpies<\/strong>; a small flock of <strong>Long-tailed Tits<\/strong> very pretty in the snow; some <strong>Vinous-throated Parrotbills<\/strong>; several <strong>Yellow-throated Buntings<\/strong>; a couple of <strong>White<\/strong> and one <strong>Japanese Wagtail<\/strong>;  and scattered <strong>Common Goldeneyes<\/strong>, <strong>Tufted Ducks<\/strong>, <strong>Smews<\/strong>, <strong>Common Pochards<\/strong>, <strong>Spot-billed Ducks<\/strong>, <strong>Mallards<\/strong>, <strong>Goosanders<\/strong>, and <strong>Common Teal<\/strong>.
