R. Newlin, T. Edelsten:- With favorable winds and warm sunshine, a three-hour watch from\u00a0Gyeyangsan proved rewarding. The most obvious sign of migration was the almost unbroken stream of 500+ Barn Swallow <\/b>overhead; we also spotted at least eight Sand Martin<\/b>, two Red-rumped Swallow <\/b>and three Asian House Martin<\/b>. The first raptors barrelling in from the distant (but clearly visible) North Korean mountains were some 11 Japanese Lesser Sparrowhawk<\/b>, then the start of the days 31 Amur Falcon<\/b>. The success of the day was sealed when -incredibly- a Black Stork <\/b>swung into view, circling upwards before accelerating away southward and out of sight.<\/p>\n

Other migrants included nine Grey-faced Buzzard <\/b>(perhaps more, left unidentified), two Northern Hobby<\/b> (one grabbing a dragonfly); three Eurasian Kestrel <\/b>(either migrants or possibly the local residents?), a Eurasian Sparrowhawk<\/b>, a Pied Harrier<\/b>, two Oriental Honey Buzzard<\/b> and five Northern Goshawk<\/b>.<\/p>\n

Also in the vicinity were about ten Yellow-browed Warbler<\/b> and three or four calling Japanese White-eye<\/b>, as well as the ever-present\u00a0troupe of Azure-winged Magpies<\/b>, Long-tailed<\/b>, Marsh<\/b> and Varied tits<\/b>; a Bull-headed Shrike <\/b>and the local shrieking Jays<\/b>.<\/p>\n
