Bird News from Nial Moores<\/p>\n

A few hours in the local park in Busan on May 30th<\/sup> and June 3rd produced a good mix of resident species, summer visitors and passage migrants. In addition to distant looks at two Pacific Reef Egret<\/strong> and single Black Kite<\/strong>, and excellent views of White-backed<\/strong> and Grey-headed Woodpeckers<\/strong>, at least two coveys of Common Pheasant<\/strong> chicks were seen on the 30th<\/sup>; and fledgling Yellow-throated Bunting<\/strong>, Eastern Great Tit<\/strong> and Varied Tit<\/strong> were all seen begging from adults on the 3rd. Probably 15+ Black-naped Orioles<\/strong> were also heard (and some glimpsed!) on both dates, and the first (returning) Black Paradise Flycatcher<\/strong> (a male with full streamers) was heard in song and seen briefly on the 30th<\/sup>, with at least three seen on the 3rd. Birds still on passage included a single female Ashy Minivet<\/strong> on the 30th<\/sup> (with probably the same heard on the 3rd); one Middendorff\u2019s Grasshopper Warbler<\/strong> seen in song on the 30th<\/sup> with two heard on the 3rd; 5+ Arctic Warbler<\/strong> heard on the 30th<\/sup>; and 4+ Kamchatka Leaf Warbler<\/strong> heard on both the 30th<\/sup> and the 3rd (with one of these resting long enough to be digiscoped). Of note too, on the latter date, single Common<\/strong>, Oriental<\/strong> and Lesser Cuckoo<\/strong> were all heard in song; and the Pacific Swift<\/strong> flock had increased from the usual 40-50 birds to at least 180.<\/p>\n
