{"id":14621,"date":"2015-03-08T18:57:49","date_gmt":"2015-03-08T09:57:49","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.birdskoreablog.org\/?p=14621"},"modified":"2015-03-16T00:13:44","modified_gmt":"2015-03-15T15:13:44","slug":"han-river-seoul-march-8th","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.birdskoreablog.org\/?p=14621","title":{"rendered":"Han River, Seoul, March 8th"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>Tim Edelsten with Robin Newlin\u00a0&amp; Rob MacFie<\/p>\n<p>At Oksu today, the regular pre-migratory\u00a0gathering of ducks made a spectacular sight as they swarmed in an ever tighter bunch toward sunset.\u00a0Undoubted star of the occasion\u00a0(seen quite\u00a0distantly) was\u00a0a male <strong>Baer&#8217;s Pochard<\/strong>-&#8220;type&#8221;\u00a0 (that\u00a0seems to\u00a0have some hybrid influence?). In the field I noted a green sheen to the head, with some cinnamon tints around the eye, forehead\u00a0and base of bill. It displayed briefly as well, whereby the back of the neck suddenly\u00a0 pops out \u00a0(which I have seen pure \u00a0male Baer&#8217;s do previously). It also had a deep plum-coloured breast and pale yellow eye.\u00a0The photos were taken at very long range. Newlin<\/p>\n<p>In other news, I counted 15,090 <strong>Common Pochard<\/strong> and 2100 <strong>Tufted Duck<\/strong>; there were also 8 <strong>Smew<\/strong> and 32 <strong>Little Grebe<\/strong>.
