Bird News from Jason Loghry<\/p>\n

I had a couple of hours this evening so I went quickly to one of the nearby parks at the Nakdong to get some birding in before sunset. This week has been cold, even in this southeastern region. Today was somewhat of an exception. There was almost no wind and the river was as smooth as glass. There were Whooper Swans<\/strong>, Tufted Ducks<\/strong> and many distant gulls on the river. A few groups of Bean<\/strong> and White-fronted Geese<\/strong> were seen in flight as well as small group of Rook<\/strong>. Much of the riverside wetland area has been closed off for the winter months in order to protect the wintering bird species. At some of the exposed reed areas I was able to find several Penduline Tit<\/strong> (mostly heard), saw a few Pallas’s Reed Bunting<\/strong> and some Buff-bellied Pipit<\/strong> in flight. Most interesting record of the evening was a Water Pipit<\/strong> feeding on one of the frozen ponds, which was a personal first. I’ve only heard about one other record<\/a> in the southeast, which was at Junam Reservoir in November of 2004.<\/p>\n
