{"id":13887,"date":"2014-12-16T12:44:03","date_gmt":"2014-12-16T03:44:03","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.birdskoreablog.org\/?p=13887"},"modified":"2014-12-16T12:44:03","modified_gmt":"2014-12-16T03:44:03","slug":"cheolwon-december-14-15","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.birdskoreablog.org\/?p=13887","title":{"rendered":"Cheolwon, December 14 &#8211; 15"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>Bird News from Robin Newlin<\/p>\n<p>I spent a privileged few hours on the afternoon of the 14<sup>th<\/sup> and the morning of the 15<sup>th<\/sup> driving (being driven, actually) around the restricted area by Pastor Jung and Mr. Shin of the Border Peace School and YMCA, respectively\u2014much thanks for their help and hospitality! Crane numbers were decent\u2014we saw conservatively over 400 <b>White-naped Cranes<\/b> and c. 250 <b>Red-crowned Cranes<\/b> (allowing for possible double-counting; birds were moving about a good deal). However, we did not perhaps come across the mythical \u201cmain flock\u201d\u2014largest groups were about 80 White-napes on the reservoir and the fantastic sight of about 60 cranes, the majority Red-crowns, in a single field. No other crane species noted, but we did see several <b>Cinereous Vultures<\/b>, a <b>Eurasian Sparrowhawk<\/b>, several <b>Kestrels<\/b>, scattered <b>White-fronted Geese<\/b> and 1 <b>Chinese Grey Shrike<\/b>.
