{"id":13468,"date":"2014-09-19T11:09:42","date_gmt":"2014-09-19T02:09:42","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.birdskoreablog.org\/?p=13468"},"modified":"2014-09-19T11:09:42","modified_gmt":"2014-09-19T02:09:42","slug":"igidae-east-busan-september-15-18","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.birdskoreablog.org\/?p=13468","title":{"rendered":"Igidae (east Busan), September 15 &#8211; 18"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>Bird News from Nial Moores<\/p>\n<p>Having finished work on the latest Birds Korea report (<i>Status of Birds<\/i>, <i>2014<\/i>), a few hours were spent in the local park on the 15<sup>th<\/sup>, 17<sup>th<\/sup> and 18<sup>th<\/sup>, including 90 minutes seawatching (one hour on 17<sup>th<\/sup> and 30 minutes on 18<sup>th<\/sup>), in the hope of seeing some early-autumn migrants.\u00a0 Visibility over the sea was good, but few birds were moving, with best 48 <b>Black-headed Gull<\/b> south on the 17<sup>th<\/sup>;\u00a0 and 18 <b>Streaked Shearwater<\/b> north and three <b>Common Tern<\/b>, four <b>Mongolian Gull<\/b> and four <b>Little Egret<\/b> south on the 18<sup>th<\/sup>. On both days, much of the sea was brown with algal blooms, with some patches as red as tomato soup, where water and algae was trapped by seawalls\u00a0 (ironic to note that Busan is presently hosting an international meeting focused on increasing use of marine resources\u2026).<\/p>\n<p>In the woodland, four species of woodpecker (all giving good views), many groups of <b>Brown-eared Bulbul<\/b> and apparently steadily increasing numbers of <b>Varied<\/b> (15+), Long-tailed (40+), <b>Eastern Great<\/b> (<i>c<\/i>.20) and <b>Coal Tits<\/b> (<i>c.<\/i>10), but no sign of any <i>Yellow-bellied Tit<\/i> (last heard here on September 7<sup>th<\/sup>). A single group of 10 <b>Daurian Redstart<\/b> on 18<sup>th<\/sup> also suggested that this species too was on the move. Numbers of most complete migrants were pretty low despite the promising weather (with overcast and occasional spells of rain on the 17<sup>th<\/sup> and 18<sup>th<\/sup>), but included one <b>Northern Boobook<\/b>, three <b>Black-naped Oriole<\/b>, two <b>Blue-and-White<\/b> and 3+ <b>Grey-streaked Flycatchers<\/b>, probably a dozen <b>Arctic Warbler<\/b>, and one possible <b>Japanese Leaf Warbler<\/b>, heard briefly on the 17<sup>th<\/sup>).
