Birds News from Spike Millington<\/p>\n
The tides were quite good for checking the shorebirds at Gojan mudflats. The highlight was a Pectoral Sandpiper<\/strong> on 30 Aug.<\/p>\n Counts were:<\/p>\n Black-faced Spoonbill<\/strong> (60)<\/p>\n Grey Plover<\/strong> (750)<\/p>\n Mongolian Plover<\/strong> (200)<\/p>\n Bar-tailed Godwit<\/strong> (200, including Yellow Flag DRS from Australia, who has been present about a month now)<\/p>\n Great Knot<\/strong> (20, mostly juvs)<\/p>\n Red Knot<\/strong> (1)<\/p>\n Pectoral Sandpiper<\/strong> (1)<\/p>\n Ruddy Turnstone<\/strong> (3)<\/p>\n Terek Sandpiper<\/strong> (only 10, most have left since early August)<\/p>\n Whimbrel<\/strong> (10+)<\/p>\n Far Eastern Curlew<\/strong> (200)<\/p>\n Eurasian Curlew<\/strong> (500)<\/p>\n Dunlin<\/strong> (250)<\/p>\n Broad-billed Sandpiper<\/strong> (50)<\/p>\n Red-necked Stint<\/strong> (1)<\/p>\n Saunders’s Gull<\/strong> (5 – always very few this time of year)<\/p>\n Nearby Namdong Reservoir was crammed with birds – an estimated 1,600 shorebirds.
