Bird News from Robin Newlin<\/p>\n

An intriguing wind forecast sent me out to Socheong; the same and then shifting winds brought strengthening worries over fog, and sent me scurrying back to the mainland. Still, the visit was enjoyable, even if birds were somewhat thin on the ground and air. Highlights: several unseen singing Northern Hawk Cuckoos<\/b> \u2014 beloved late-spring Socheong! Evidence of bittern migration: 4 Yellow Bitterns<\/b> and 1 Von Schrenk\u2019s Bittern<\/b> seen in different spots. A few Lanceolated Warblers<\/b>, a single singing Eastern Crowned Warbler<\/b>, and a late but probable (heard briefly) Pallas\u2019 Leaf Warbler<\/b>. Several Korean Bush Warblers<\/b> \u2014 one singing boldly from the top of a telephone pole. Low numbers of singing Indian<\/b>, Little<\/b> and Common Cuckoos<\/b>. A White-shouldered Starling<\/b>. 4 Black Drongos<\/b>. 3 Thick-billed Warblers<\/b>. Small numbers of Arctic, Dusky<\/b> and Black-browed Reed Warblers<\/b> and a single unseen Oriental Reed Warbler<\/b>. Unseen Oriental Greenfinch<\/b>. Black-naped Orioles<\/b> \u2014 some seen and most heard. 4 Tiger Shrikes<\/b> and 3 Brown Shrikes<\/b>. A Light-vented Bulbul<\/b>. A few Chinese Pond Herons<\/b>, several Cattle<\/b> and Intermediate Egrets<\/b>. 1 Yellow-throated Bunting<\/b>. A few Grey-streaked<\/b> and Asian Brown Flycatchers<\/b>. A single and brief thrush call\u2014sounded like Chinese Blackbird<\/b>. A single White Wagtail<\/b>. Several Blue Rock Thrushes<\/b>. Occasional Oriental Dollarbirds<\/b> and Chinese Sparrowhawks<\/b>. A pair of Peregrine Falcons<\/b>. A Eurasian Hobby<\/b> and several Barn Swallows<\/b>. A single Little Grebe<\/b>, actively diving.<\/p>\n
