Bird News from Nial Moores<\/p>\n

Largely blue skies and warm temperatures (reaching a high of 22\u00b0C on the 29th<\/sup>), with the wind swinging from the west on the 28th<\/sup> to the southwest then south on the 29th. <\/sup> Unsurprisingly, there was a large clear-out of migrants.<\/p>\n

Major species of note included a well-seen Manchurian Reed Warbler<\/b> in Yeonhwa Village (at one time flitting through the same bush used by last year’s Slaty-blue Flycatcher<\/I> – sadly too close to digiscope) and a male Asian Koel<\/b> heard in the evening very briefly in Jincheon, both on the 28th<\/sup>; and two Hair-crested Drongo <\/b>in the southwest in the morning on the 29th<\/sup> (one with beautifully up-curled tail feathers; the other, in the image, in “song” but showing much more tail wear).<\/p>\n

Other highlights included two Ruddy-breasted Crake<\/b>, a single Black Drongo<\/b>, a female Russet Sparrow<\/b>, a Yellow-breasted Bunting <\/b>and 12+ Red Crossbill<\/b> on the 28th<\/sup>; and another Fairy Pitta<\/b> and Baikal Bush Warbler<\/b> (both heard only), at least five Black Drongo<\/b> (including two watched coming in high from the south at dawn); a late Brambling<\/b>, five Black-faced Spoonbill <\/b>(including one colour-banded bird), six Chinese Egret<\/b> and large numbers of recently-hatched Black-tailed Gull<\/b> seeking shade under adults on the 29th<\/sup>.<\/p>\n
