Bird News from Robin Newlin, often with Nial Moores and Tim Edelsten<\/p>\n

Since my 5 days on the island fall within the period Dr. Moores\u2019 stay, and to avoid redundancy, the following account lists a few highlights and then gives a full list of birds species seen during my Birdathon effort.<\/p>\n

Highlights. The rarities discovered by N.M.\u2014Alpine Leaf Warbler<\/b>, Tree Pipit<\/b>, and Mongolian Lark<\/b>. The surprisingly good numbers of some generally scarce birds, e.g. Yellow-browed Bunting<\/b>, Yellow-breasted Bunting<\/b>, and Taiga Flycatcher<\/b>. Excellent numbers of Olive-backed Pipits<\/b>, Little Buntings<\/b>, Chinese Grosbeaks<\/b>, and Eyebrowed Thrushes<\/b>. A pair of Northern Boobook<\/b>\u2014one seen and one heard. A calling Oriental<\/b> Scops Owl<\/b>. The amazing Black-tailed Gull<\/b> colony and the Black-faced Spoonbills<\/b>. Toward the end of my stay, a single small tree held 4 very active Mugimaki Flycatchers<\/b>, 1 Asian Brown Flycatcher<\/b>, 2 Yellow-browed Warblers<\/b> and a stop-by Radde\u2019s Warbler<\/b>.<\/p>\n
