It was a new challenge to be only on foot, and many of the participants here in the ROK chose to do the race on islands &#8211; though one team celebrated the birds in central Seoul. With migration in full swing, some species counts were remarkable:<\/p>\n<p><strong>April 30<\/strong>: <a href=\"https:\/\/www.birdskoreablog.org\/?p=12480\" target=\"_blank\">Team Hanns-Seidel Foundation Korea<\/a> with 24 species<br \/>\n<strong>April 30 &#8211; May 1<\/strong>: <a href=\"https:\/\/www.birdskoreablog.org\/?p=12478\" target=\"_blank\">Dr. Nial Moores<\/a> with 142 species<br \/>\n<strong>May 1 &#8211; 2<\/strong>: <a href=\"https:\/\/www.birdskoreablog.org\/?p=12540\" target=\"_blank\">Mr. Subhojit Chakladar<\/a> with 75 species<br \/>\n<strong>May 3<\/strong>: Mr. Ed Keeble (UK), with 82 species<br \/>\n<strong>May 3 &#8211; 4<\/strong>: <a href=\"https:\/\/www.birdskoreablog.org\/?p=12502\" target=\"_blank\">Team Blake<\/a> (Mr. Patrick Blake &amp; Ms. Melanie Proteau Blake) 78 species<br \/>\n<strong>May 4<\/strong>: <a href=\"https:\/\/www.birdskoreablog.org\/?p=12532\" target=\"_blank\">Prof. Robin Newlin<\/a> with 70 species<br \/>\n<strong>May 4<\/strong>: <a href=\"https:\/\/www.birdskoreablog.org\/?p=12509\" target=\"_blank\">Team America<\/a> (Mr. Bradlee Sulentic &amp; Ms. Erika Wilson) with 72 species<br \/>\n<strong>May 4 &#8211; 5<\/strong>: <a href=\"https:\/\/www.birdskoreablog.org\/?p=12471\" target=\"_blank\">Mr. Jason Loghry<\/a> with 93 species<br \/>\n<strong>May 5 &#8211; 6<\/strong>: <a href=\"https:\/\/www.birdskoreablog.org\/?p=12499\" target=\"_blank\">Team UBCK <\/a>(University Birding Club of Korea: Mr. Ha Jung Moon, Ms. Hwang Haemin, &amp; Mr. Kim Ohjin) with 83 species<\/p>\n<p><center><a href=\"https:\/\/www.birdskoreablog.org\/wp-content\/uploads\/2014\/05\/Mugimaki-Flycatcher_RN-male.jpg\" rel=\"prettyPhoto[12469]\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"aligncenter  wp-image-12630\" alt=\"Mugimaki-Flycatcher_RN-male\" src=\"https:\/\/www.birdskoreablog.org\/wp-content\/uploads\/2014\/05\/Mugimaki-Flycatcher_RN-male.jpg\" width=\"551\" height=\"413\" srcset=\"https:\/\/www.birdskoreablog.org\/wp-content\/uploads\/2014\/05\/Mugimaki-Flycatcher_RN-male.jpg 680w, https:\/\/www.birdskoreablog.org\/wp-content\/uploads\/2014\/05\/Mugimaki-Flycatcher_RN-male-150x112.jpg 150w, https:\/\/www.birdskoreablog.org\/wp-content\/uploads\/2014\/05\/Mugimaki-Flycatcher_RN-male-300x225.jpg 300w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 551px) 100vw, 551px\" \/><\/a><strong>Mugimaki Flycatcher<\/strong> <em>Ficedula mugimaki<\/em>, \u00a9 Robin Newlin<\/center><\/p>\n<h3>Fundraising for Conservation<\/h3>\n<p>Birds Korea has been working on a report detailing changes in bird populations in the Republic of Korea since 2011 to present to decision-makers and to participants at this October\u2019s intergovernmental Convention on Biological Diversity (CBD) conference (see:<a href=\"http:\/\/biodiversity-l.iisd.org\/events\/cbd-cop-12\/\">http:\/\/biodiversity-l.iisd.org\/events\/cbd-cop-12\/<\/a>). If we prepare and present well, this conference should provide all of us with a unique opportunity to raise awareness about the need to conserve biodiversity in Korea and along the Flyway, and to help the nation move firmly towards genuinely sustainable development.<\/p>\n<p>This year\u2019s Birdathon will help fund production and publication of this report. So far, we have received pledges of about \u20a92,000,000 won (thank you!). Some of these pledges have been received; many are still &#8216;on the way&#8217;.
