First found on December 29<sup>th<\/sup> by Ms. Lee Jeong-Suk, the bird was then loosely joined by an overwintering <b>Korean Bush Warbler<\/b>, first found by the same observer on February 20<sup>th<\/sup>. Both were still present on March 1<sup>st<\/sup>, when photographed by SKS. Both records are extraordinary. This is the first mid-winter record of <b>Pallas\u2019s Grasshopper Warbler<\/b> in Korea \u2013 a species that should be wintering far to the south. According to Kennerley &amp; Pearson\u2019s book \u201c<i>Reed and Bush Warblers<\/i>\u201d, this species \u201coccupies an extensive wintering range across much of SE Asia\u2026 It winters regularly in Sri Lanka and SC India and from NE India into Burma, Thailand and the Malay Peninsula south to Singapore. There are occasional records of wintering birds from Nepal, SE China, Vietnam, Laos, Sumatra and Java\u201d. <b>Korean Bush Warbler<\/b> has been recorded in Korea in mid-winter before, but only rarely in the far southwest.<\/p>\n<div>\n<p><center><img decoding=\"async\" title=\"Pallas's Grasshopper Warbler\" alt=\"\" src=\"http:\/\/birdskorea.org\/Images\/images2014\/03\/Pallass-Grasshopper-Warbler_SKS.jpg\" \/><br \/>\n<b>Pallas&#8217;s Grasshopper Warbler<\/b> <i>Locustella certhiola<\/i>, \u00a9 Shim Kyu-Sik<\/p>\n<p><img decoding=\"async\" title=\"Korean Bush Warbler\" alt=\"\" src=\"http:\/\/birdskorea.org\/Images\/images2014\/03\/Korean-Bush-Warbler_SKS.jpg\" \/><br \/>\n<b>Korean Bush Warbler<\/b> <i>Horornis borealis<\/i>, \u00a9 Shim Kyu-Sik<\/center><\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Bird News from Dr. Shim-Kyu-Sik Astonishing news concerns a Pallas\u2019s Grasshopper Warbler found wintering in reeds in a small stream in north-eastern Seoul.
