{"id":11754,"date":"2014-02-22T20:29:01","date_gmt":"2014-02-22T11:29:01","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.birdskoreablog.org\/?p=11754"},"modified":"2014-02-26T20:58:05","modified_gmt":"2014-02-26T11:58:05","slug":"han-river-seoul-february-22","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.birdskoreablog.org\/?p=11754","title":{"rendered":"Han River, Seoul, February 22"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><strong>Bird News from Tim Edelsten<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>From the Hannam bridge to the mouth of the Jungnang Stream (a stretch of about 1.7km) there were massed 14800<b>Common Pochard<\/b>\u00a0and 4600\u00a0<b>Tufted Duck<\/b>. Unfortunately they were flushed by an speedboat, although the sound and sight of thousands of wildfowl taking flight was quite something. While counting I also noticed the pure<b>Ferruginous Duck<\/b>, three\u00a0<b>Greater Scaup<\/b>\u00a0and 32\u00a0<b>Smew<\/b>.<\/p>\n<p>Best for the day of course, good but distant views of the apparently pure drake\u00a0<b>Baer&#8217;s Pochard<\/b>, which displayed to surrounding ducks by suddenly flexing its neck and repeatedly arching it backwards, like a bow being drawn.<\/p>\n<p>Also of interest, three hybrids, including the male\u00a0<b>Baer&#8217;s Pochard X Ferruginous Duck<\/b>\u00a0and\u00a0<b>Ferruginous Duck X Common Pochard<\/b>\u00a0that I photographed on January 27th.
