Nakdong Estuary, December 27-28

Bird News from Nial Moores with Cheong Hyun-Deok (KBS PD) and team

A couple of cold and very windy days spent gathering footage in the Nakdong Estuary found rather few birds, with most numerous including Taiga Bean Goose (c. 1000) and Whooper Swan (c. 450), and outstanding highlight on 28th an apparently over-wintering Caspian Tern (likely to be the individual first found in the estuary by visiting bird conservationist Simon Mahood on November 20th) – with the tern sitting bizarrely in the foreground of a ‘scope view which also included a distant adult Steller’s Sea Eagle behind!

In the west of the estuary, there were another one or two immature Steller’s Sea Eagle, three Cinereous Vulture and a single Greater Spotted Eagle.
